Accommodation:The stone built cottage forms part of one side of the courtyard and has been sympathetically restored to a comfortable standard. The kitchen has a traditional open fireplace, exposed beams and tiled floor. It is equipped with gas cooker, fridge / freezer , dishwasher and microwave.
The attractive and spacious living room has a stone fireplace and is comfortably furnished (including a double sofa-bed) and satellite television. ( Sky News, CNN, Eurosport )
There are two bathrooms, one with bath and WC., the other with shower and WC.
Of the two double bedrooms, one has twin beds, whilst the other has a double bed and a hand washbasin. There is a third smaller bedroom with bunk-beds (which can be separated) for 2 children. The 12.5 swimming pool ( occasionally used by us ) has a shallow end of 60cm and a deep end of 2m and is fenced to keep small children safe.
The Location:Near the historic market town of Duras with its imposing medieval Château. ' Pierrot ' is a suitable centre for visits to the Dordogne valley with its world famous pre-historic cave paintings at Lascaux as well as other caverns and pre-historic cliff dwellings, the romantic medieval Châteaux of the Dordogne, and the ' bastides' or fortified market towns which remain largely as they were 600 years ago.
We are in the Côtes de Duras AOC wine producing area, one of the first in France to receive AOC status, and also close to Bergerac, Entre Deux Mers and of course, Bordeaux and St. Emilion.
Locally there are tennis courts, golf courses, canoeing, river fishing and a pony club. Five Kms. away is a large and attractive lake with supervised swimming for children and a large water slide. Or you can visit the long sandy beaches and inland lakes of the Atlantic coast, between Bordeaux and the Spanish border.
The cuisine of France is justly renowned and consists of more than the expensive fois gras and truffles. Restaurants and bars offering 4 or 5 course meals with wine for around 70 francs represent astonishing value for money, whilst for 120 francs and more you can enjoy superb 'menus gastronomiques'.
Included in the weekly price are sheets and towels, hot water, gas ( for cooking ) electricity, and use of washing machine. A cot and high chair are available. We are here to help you make the most of your holiday should you need any information or advice.
A quote from our visitors book: 'We came.....with every intention of exploring the countryside.....But we found the perfect holiday at Pierrot - peace, tranquillity, comfort, and the swimming pool.'
